Biography
Born and raised in Brooklyn, NY, Oscar founded the New York Sumo Club in 2022 and now leads its three active branches under the New York Sumo Association.
While he achieved moderate success as a lightweight competitor, his true talent emerged in refereeing.
Today, Oscar stands as one of the most respected gyoji in the United States, serving as Head Referee for elite tournaments including:

Ōsunaarashi (Abdelrahman Shalan)

Ōsunaarashi Kintarō, born Abdelrahman Shalan, made history as the first Arab and African professional sumo wrestler in Japan.
Rising through the prestigious Ōtake stable, he earned worldwide recognition for his incredible strength, fearless fighting spirit, and powerful pushing techniques.
Today, he continues promoting sumo internationally while inspiring a new generation of athletes across the Middle East, Africa, and beyond.

Alejandro “Alex” Santana serves as the Florida Sumo chapter leader in Orlando and has rapidly become one of the most respected heavyweight athletes in the American sumo scene.
Before entering sumo, he competed as a Division II dual-sport athlete in football and track & field, building the explosive strength and athletic discipline that now define his fighting style.
With a background in national championship coaching, Alex continues to mentor and elevate the next generation of sumotori through leadership, discipline, and high-performance training.

A two-time U.S. lightweight national champion (2024 & 2025), he represents the new generation of dynamic American sumotori pushing the sport forward.

Brazilian power sumo icon known for dominance, unmatched strength, and one of the most decorated careers in South American sumo history.

Rui Junior is the most decorated Brazilian sumo champion in history, holding 22 national titles and establishing himself as a dominant force in the sport.
He is a 10× South American Champion and a 5-time World Championship medalist, recognized globally for his consistency and elite performance.
Beyond competition, he served as head coach of the Venezuelan National Sumo Team, contributing significantly to the growth of sumo across South America.
